Design, making and installation of art works for Gateway Feature at Cannon Street.

Artworks incorporated into the wall.

The wall artwork consists of four relief panels which are imbedded into the blue pennant stone cladding. The panels represent historical aspects of life in Brynaman as well as life in the present day. Various local community groups and schools were consulted for ideas that contributed to the final design and involved them in practical workshops.

The panels were modelled in clay and then cast into reinforce concrete. A subtle shade of color was incorporated into the concrete mix to complement the natural surroundings.

The concept of the proposal is that the relief panels represent a timeline showing elements of the past with the emphasis on local history such as industry, mining and local poetry. The present is represented by activities and pastimes undertaken by local groups such as gardening, creative arts and amateur dramatics and the future represented with activities suggested by young people from the area ie; music and issues surrounding the environment.
The hand cut porcelain mosaics provide an element of colour and create depth atmosphere and movement to the whole design.
